KULOOR MEMORIAL LECTURE
Professor N. R. Kuloor took over as the chairman of our department in 1960. Those were crucial formative years for the department. Prof. Kuloor was an alumnus of the Department of Chemical Technology of the University of Bombay and of the Imperial College, London. As chairman, he brought with him a tradition of excellence in basic research acquired from his academic training and vast experience in industrial research gained while guiding research at the Shriram Institute for Industrial Research. With remarkable vision and organisational ability, he led the department for over a decade. Under his leadership, our department rose in stature and became a renowned centre for research in chemical engineering. His untimely death in 1970, at a rather young age, robbed the profession and the department of an eminent researcher and leader.
As a tribute to the contributions made by Prof. Kuloor, our department instituted the Kuloor Memorial Lectureship in 1979, which became operative from the academic year 1980-81. Under this lectureship, eminent personalities in the chemical engineering profession visit our department and interact with faculty members and students by way of lectures and discussions and give impetus to the teaching, research, and consultancy programs ongoing in the department. |
