Master of Engineering (ME)
The ME program is a two-year course based program designed to prepare students to address complex industrial and technological problems through an advanced knowledge of various chemical engineering subjects. A bachelors degree in chemical engineering or a related field is necessary to enter the program. Selection is based on the score obtained in the GATE Chemical Engineering Paper. The program consists of 32 credits of course work and 32 credits of project work. Of the course credits, 21 credits are from compulsory core courses and the remaining from electives.
Admission to the ME program is in the August semester only for which applications are generally received in March every year. The admission procedure is advertised in all national daily newspapers in January/February every year. GATE is conducted in the second week of February; GATE results are announced on March 15th.

Master of Science (MSc[Engg])
The Master of Science program is a research based program designed to prepare students to advance chemical engineering through research, development, production, design and/or management. A bachelors degree in engineering or a masters degree in sciences with mathematics as a subject at least at the bachelors level is required to enter the program. Candidates are called for an interview on the basis of their scores in GATE or Joint CSIR-UGC National Entrance Test for JRF or UGC-NET for JRF. The final selection is based on the performance in the interview.
Each student selects a research advisor and plans a program of course work and thesis research. A minimum of 12 credit hours of graduate course work of which at least 6 credits of core courses in addition to the 4 credit mathematics course offered in the department are required for the MSc(Engg) degree. Independent research work is assessed through a general test midway in the program and a defense of the thesis at the end.
Admission to the MSc(Engg) program is in the August semester only for which applications are generally received in March every year. The admission procedure is advertised in all national daily newspapers in January/February every year. Interviews are held in June.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The Doctor of Philosophy program is designed to prepare each student to actively participate in the development and growth of the field of chemical engineering at all levels in the industry or in research and teaching in a university or a research organization. Students can enter the PhD program either with a masters or a bachelors degree in engineering. Admission to the PhD program is in both August and January semesters for which applications are generally received in March and October, respectively, every year. The admission procedure is advertised in all national daily newspapers in January/February and October every year. Interviews are held in January and June. The selection procedure and the course requirements are as follows.
Applicants with a masters degree in engineering
Selection is based on performance in an interview. No GATE score is required.
In the PhD program, each student selects a research advisor and plans a program of course work and thesis research. Six credit hours of graduate course work of which at least 3 credits should be from core courses offered in the department are required for the PhD degree. Independent research work is assessed by a comprehensive examination midway in the program and a defense of the thesis at the end.
Applicants with a bachelors degree in engineering
Selection is based on performance in an interview. No GATE score is required.
Each student selects a research advisor and plans a program of course work and thesis research. A minimum of 18 credit hours of graduate course work of which at least 6 credits of core courses in addition to the 4 credit mathematics course offered in the department are required for the MSc(Engg) degree. Independent research work is assessed through a comprehensive examination midway in the program and a defense of the thesis at the end.
